#13 Tee

Once we got about 2/3 of the finish grade completed we ran into a brick wall. All our seasonal laborers returned to their country and
very unmanageable weather moved in. Over the next month and a half we were only able to work on the tee a few times and for only
a few hours a day.

JANUARY 2008
In January we had a unusual break in the weather. Anticipating the opportunity in advance, we were able to hire temporary labor and
complete the next phase of the tee. At this point we completed the finish grade and the grade immediately surrounding the tee
surface. This was a very crucial stage because it know gave us the opportunity to lay some sod without the risk of the tee top
washing out due to weather. All the bentgrass sod came from our own nursery. It made the process longer, but saved us money in
the end. Once all the sod was done, we covered it with a special tarp.
As of March 7th, the sod that we had laid in January is doing very well. It has already pushed roots into our sand profile and survived
the move. Because we covered the tee immediately, we have some nice growth already as well. We were able to roll it recently, and
have plans to topdress and fertilize it during the next break in weather.

During the week of the 24th, we were able to utilize both the weather and our temporary workers. We were able to touch up the
banks as well as lay the rough sod. We also reconfigured the flower bed, mulched around a tree, leveled the irrigation heads, and
removed the old concrete foundation to the left of the tee.

FINAL THOUGHTS
All in all the overall project was a success. In the beginning it seemed like everything was working against us. The weather was not
cooperating, our seasonal employees were leaving, and there was some concern about the orientation of the tee. When you revisit
the process, it is frustrating to think that this tee took four months to build. Obviously now when you stand back and look at what we
accomplished, it easy to forget about all the hardships. Both Charlie and I would like to take this opportunity to give special praise to
work on the tee. All though at times it seemed like we were accomplishing very little, in retrospect we wouldn't have been finished
before opening day without those efforts. Everybody worked hard and put a sense of ownership in what they did.
